Patent attorney Tom Galvani charges flat fees for most work. General fees are described below under each tab. The below explanations are general fee structures; your specific fee structure will be outlined in an engagement letter and fee letter.
-
Patent Application Preparation
Provisional applications generally cost between $1600 and $2200, which includes the attorney fees, any drawing fees, and government filing fees. Most non-provisional applications cost between $4000 and $7000 in attorney fees, $500 in drawing fees, and $730 in government filing fees. Additional fees are required if a patent search is performed and when the Patent Office corresponds during prosecution.
Patent Application Prosecution
The costs of prosecuting a patent application are extremely difficult to predict. The Patent Office can issue none, one, or many communications making a variety of requests, objections, and rejections, all of which may necessitate responding with varying amounts of work. Costs for prosecution can run between a few hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars. When an application is approved and receives a Notice of Allowance, an issue fee of about $900 must be paid to the Patent Office to have the application issue as an actual patent.
-
Trademark Applications
Trademark applications generally cost between about $900 and $2000 from filing to registration. The range in costs depends on whether the Trademark Office issues substantive or formal refusals during prosecution of the application.
-
Copyright Registrations
A copyright registration typically costs just under $500. The application process is usually straightforward without many issues, but care must be taken when preparing an application so that it is accepted by the Copyright Office.
